Located on Norway’s wild and beautiful west coast, Tindefilm is a tight knit creative team of experienced professionals who all share the same vision; creating high quality, filmic content for the global market. Our first production, ‘Lysleite’, a creative documentary about the dwindling light in the polar regions won a Gullruten (Norwegian TV awards) and our second documentary, ‘Bit – Ballerina Bulldog’ was nominated for best documentary at BIFF as well as Gullruten for best original score. Tindefilm’s first TV series, ‘Kari-Anne på Røst’ was recommissioned for a second series broadcast on NRK 1 Autumn 2018, and in January 2019 Tindefilm signed a global distribution deal with FLAME distributions.
Tindefilm have just produced their first commercial for Aker Solutions, Harnessing the Wind, and they have several projects in production due for broadcast in 2020 and 2021 including a three part series for NRK, ‘The Diary’, and an epic creative documentary about maverick Ole Brude, ‘Fearless’ starring Kristofer Hivju and Vebjørn Enger, due for broadcast spring 2021.
Creative team:
Hilde Nerland – Producer
Hilde is an experienced producer, production manager, journalist and researcher who has worked in TV since 1994, producing several documentaries for TV Inter and TV2 in Norway. After starting Tindefilm together with Cinematographer Tor Sivertstøl, their first independent production, ‘Lysleite’, a creative documentary about light and art in the Polar Regions won a Gullruten in 2013 (Norwegian TV awards). Their second documentary, ‘Bit – Ballerina Bulldog’ was nominated for best documentary at BIFF 2015 as well as Gullruten for best original score 2016. Both films have been distributed in Scandinavia (Norway (NRK), Sweden (SVT), Denmark (DR), Finland (YLE), Iceland (RUV) and the Faroe Islands (SvF)). In 2017 Hilde successfully produced her first six-part TV-series for Tindefilm, ‘Kari-Anne på Røst’ in addition to a feature length TV-documentary ‘Fiskeskøyta som erobra havet’ also broadcast on NRK. Six new, slightly longer episodes of ‘Kari-Anne på Røst’ were re-commissioned by NRK for broadcast in August 2018, and the Christmas Special of the program had over 40% of the viewers in Norway on the day of broadcast.
Tor Sivertstøl – Cinematographer
Tor is a very experienced cinematographer who is passionate about his craft. After spending over ten years working on the multi-award winning TV-series ‘Der ingen skulle tru at nokon kunne bu’, Tor decided to go freelance in order to realise a long standing dream of making a creative Documentary about the Polar Winter. The resulting film, ‘Lysleite’ (Hunting the Light) won a ‘Gullruten’ (Norwegian TV awards) for best film with a single camera and formed the basis for what is now Tindefilm. Tor’s latest project, a six part TV-series for NRK filmed in the Arctic was re-commissioned for 2018 with slightly longer episodes, and the Christmas Special, filmed and edited by Tor had over 40% of the viewers in Norway on the day of broadcast.
Gry Molvær Hivju – Director
Gry is an experienced multi award-winning journalist and TV-presenter and artist. Headhunted to present one of the most watched popular science programs in Norway, ‘Schrödinger’s katt’ in 1999, she produced and directed the show from 2005-2013. Gry has also produced and directed several documentaries for NRK including ‘Havlandet’ 2006 which won EU’s Descarte price for best innovative presentation of research, ‘Rundeskatten’ 2011 and ‘Herdalshuldra’ 2012.
Since leaving NRK in 2014, Gry has directed two Documentaries for Tindefilm, ‘Bit – Ballerina Bulldog’ which was nominated for best documentary at BIFF 2015 and ‘Fiskeskøyta som erobra havet’ 2017. Gry also directed the critically acclaimed Stage Show ‘Fra hat til håp’ at Nidaros Cathedral as part of ‘Olavsfestdagene’ in 2014 and 2017. Frequently used by NRK as the Norwegian voice of major international TV-Documentaries, Gry is also very much in demand as a ‘script’ doctor and consultant in Norway and is being credited as an executive producer on the upcoming Scandinavian Drama series ‘Twins’ produced by Nordisk Film Productions for her role in developing the script.
Kristofer Hivju – Script/Actor
Kristofer is a world renowned actor known for his parts in HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’, Swedish Crime Noir ‘Beck’, The ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise as well as his award-winning supporting role in the Golden Globe nominated Comedy Drama ‘Force Majeure’. As a script writer Kristofer has worked on several theatre productions as well as documentaries, drama series and feature films and he is in much demand as a ‘script doctor’ in his native Norway. Kristofer wrote the script for ‘Bit – Ballerina Bulldog’, and a concept for the drama series ‘Twin’ developed by Kristofer and director Kristofer Metcalfe is in post-production due to be premiered on NRK autumn 2019.
Sylvia Strand, Jonathan Gregory – Composers/Creative Team
Nominated for ‘best original score’ at Norway’s TV awards Gullruten 2016 for the film Bit-Ballerina Bulldog, directed by Gry Molvær Hivju, and written by Kristofer Hivju. Sylvia and Jonathan are also known for scoring seven seasons of Norway’s multi award winning TV series ‘Der ingen skulle tru at nokon kunne bu’ 2007 – 2014, directed by Oddgeir Bruaset. Their success led them to scoring Fjelldronninga (The Mountain Queen) an intimate portrait of Queen Sonja of Norway, again directed by Oddgeir Bruaset. Working closely with cinematographer, Tor Sivertstøl since 2007 Sylvia and Jonathan went on to score his first feature length documentary, the award winning Lysleite (Hunting the Light). The soundtrack, released on their own label, outsold Frozen and the Hobbit in its first week of release, reaching number 1 in the Norwegian soundtrack charts in 2014. Sylvia and Jonathan have been involved in all of Tindefilm’s projects to date, and the last two years have seen them taking on other roles in addition to their composing work. They have been heavily involved in the pitching process for new projects and Sylvia has also taken on the role of Assistant Producer in close collaboration with Tindefilm’s Executive Producer Hilde Nerland.. Sylvia and Jonathan operate as Tindefilm’s contact outside of Norway and have their own UK based production company Screen Tales Ltd.
